"Rod Selection"

Tuesday, Septmeber 2nd we will be focusing our weekly chat on "Rod Selection"

Choosing a fishing rod these days can be quite a challenge due to all the technique specific rods available. Sure, it would be nice to just own one of each but many of us must narrow our selection down to only a few multi-purpose rods.

Come join us this Tuesday as we discuss what kind of rod for what kind of technique and which rods you should not be without.

To join us, just be sure to be logged into the forums and click the "Chat" button in the top navigation bar.

NEW: All members who attend will earn 15 bonus Bass Bucks, which are redeemable in The Bassholes Rewards Shop! Also members who arrive on time (between 8:15 and 8:35PM EST) will recieve an additional 5 bonus Bass Bucks!

Thank you and we look forward to seeing everyone there.

Many men go fishing all of their lives without knowing that it is not fish they are after.

Weighting a Lipless Crankbait

Lipless crankbaits are responsible for many many fish and many tournament wins. A lot of anglers may use them right out of the box as they come but some anglers love to trick them out to get an edge on the rest of the crowd. Sticking a screw into the front underside of the crankbait will add extra weight and allow you fish the crankbait deeper and faster.

Adding the screw to the front of the bait is quite simple. You can use a small drill bit and a drill or you can do what I do and use an Xacto knife.

Simply push the point in a hair then slowly rotate the Xacto in a circluar motion and the sharp #11 blade will begin to drill its way into the underside of the bait. Only go as deep and as wide as needed for the screw you intend to use. You can change screw lengths different weight changes and effects.

Be sure to bury the screw up tight to the body of the bait so that there is no gap to grab and hang up on grass with.

Once the screw is tight and in place you are set to go, If you would like, to be sure it's good and water tight and you have no gaps to snag any trash with, a bit of clear nail polish over and around the screwhead will finish off your modification just perfectly.

I hope you find this tip useful and it helps you fill your livewell a little quicker. Please jump on the forums and post any pictures of the fish you catch with this modification. I am sure everyone would appreciate seeing your success.
